Who We Are

About CHAN Medi-Pharm

CHAN Medi-Pharm Ltd/Gte (CMP) is a private, not-for-profit, charitable, faith-based non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Nigeria under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990.

Our History & Evolution

CHAN Medi-Pharm began operations in 1979 as a division of the Christian Health Association of Nigeria (CHAN), originally known as CHANPharm. Established as an ecumenical pharmaceutical supply organization, CHANPharm was founded by three prominent Christian bodies:

  • The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN)
  • The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN)
  • The Northern Christian Medical Advisory Council (NCMAC)

The primary objective of CHANPharm was to coordinate the provision of essential medicines and medical supplies to church-owned health facilities across Nigeria.

Over the years, with the continued commitment and support of its founding bodies, the organization evolved to meet the changing needs of Nigeria's healthcare system. In 2000, as part of its repositioning for greater productivity and sustainability, the organization transitioned into its current structure as CHAN Medi-Pharm Limited by Guarantee.

Today, CHAN Medi-Pharm provides bulk procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical consumables, as well as pharmaceutical management support services, including training in rational medicine use, inventory management, and sustainable drug revolving fund schemes.

The organization has consistently championed improved access to essential medicines and healthcare, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations, while maintaining a robust medical commodity logistics and distribution infrastructure in Nigeria. In addition, CHAN Medi-Pharm has expanded its scope of services to provide Procurement and Supply Management (PSM) support for various donor-funded healthcare programmes in Nigeria, as well as health-related grant management services.

Today, CHAN Medi-Pharm operates from its head office in Jos, Plateau State, with three zonal offices located in Lagos, Owerri, and Numan.
